第三节:阅读理解
认真阅读下列短文, A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
It was graduation day at the university where I work and a beautiful day quite unlike the first graduation I attended as a young professor. On that cold day years ago, as we watched the students walking into the hall, one of my colleagues turned to me and said, "Graduation will be one of the happiest and one of the saddest time of your life." At my inquiry, he answered, "Because the students you have gotten to know have to leave."
As years went by, my previous confusion about my colleague's words no longer existed. When I came across naughty students, I have had to rethink why I chose to be a teacher. It obviously isn't the money.Once a former computer science student of mine called me, asking me if I wanted to have a change. He was working at Nintendo Corporation. His salary was higher than my current one, though I have more education and have worked for over a decade. With my programming skills, he said he could get me hired.I thanked him, but declined his kind offer.
A few days before this current graduation, while working on final grades, I found a note a student had slipped in with her homework. She thanked me for being her teacher and said the things she had learned in my class—not about math, but about life—would be things she would remember long after the math skills had faded away.As I finished reading, I remembered why I had become a teacher.
Now, on this sunny graduation day, as I again observed the sea of blue hats and gowns, I did so with renewed dedication (奉献) and a deeper sense of satisfaction—I will always be grateful that I am a teacher.
.Hearing his colleague's description of graduation for the first time, the author __________.
A.quite agreed with his colleague
B.was very puzzled
C.thought it very funny
D.was very sad
.The computer science student called up the author because he___________.
A.wanted to inform the author of his present job
B.tried to persuade the author to work with him
C.wanted the author to share his joy and satisfaction
D.thought the author wasn't fit to be a teacher
43.The underlined part “blue hats and gowns” refers to___________.
A.university colleagues
B.graduates' clothes
C.life memories
D.decorations in the hall
.The author wrote this passage to __________.
A.express his devotion to being a teacher
B.compare two different graduation ceremonies
C.talk about the meaning of graduation
D.give advice on how to be a good teacherTraffic TV

The United States has around 475,000 school buses. Each day they carry more than 25 million children, half of all the schoolchildren in the country.
These buses, on average, use 4 liters of diesel (柴油) fuel to travel less than 16 kilometers. When the school year began last fall, diesel averaged 55 cents a liter nationally. The price nearly doubled by the end of school in June.
Bob Riley is the spokesman for the American School Bus Council. He says fuel prices negotiated(商议) for schools are not lower than others have to pay. As a result, schools are looking for ways to reduce transportation costs. Bus routes are being redrawn or, in some cases, canceled. Some areas are buying buses that use natural gas or other alternative fuels.
Other steps include fewer field trips and less travel by sports teams. Some school districts may end any bus service not required by law.
Studies show that school buses are the safest form of transportation to and from school.
The American School Bus Council says cuts in bus service are bad for children and possibly the environment. It says removing buses from the road will mean an increase in other vehicles transporting students. Spokesman Bob Riley says another concern is that reducing
bus service might reduce attendance.
It could also get more children to walk or bicycle to school. That would surely make people happy at the National Center for Safe Routes to School. More kids walking or biking safely to school is the aim of a 3-year-old federal program, part of an international movement. The goal is to increase physical activity and reduce air pollution.
49. In the second paragraph, the author wants to prove that
A. too many schoolchildren take buses every day
B. the cost of fuel has increased
C. the school buses consume more fuel than average
D. the school buses usually go on long routes
50. In the third paragraph, what does Bob Riley mean'?
A. The fuel prices for school buses need to be negotiated again.
B. High fuel prices are also affecting the efficiency of their services.
C. The fuel prices for school are much higher than others pay.
D. The American School Bus Council should work for students’ benefit.
51. What is the advantage of reducing school bus service according to the passage?
A. More fuel will be saved.
B. Students can go to school in a safer way.
C. Students can exercise by walking or riding to school.
D. Traffic jams will be reduced during rush hour.
52. What is the sixth paragraph mainly about?
A. Bob Riley's concern about the results of reducing school buses.
B. The convenience brought by school buses.
C. The bad effects of reducing school buses.
D. The studies about students' choices carried out by the American School Bus Council.
Maybe it is true that we do not know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we do not know what we have been missing until it arrives.
It takes an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Do not e but if it does not, be content it has grown in yours. Do not rely on one’ it can trick you. D even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream wh go
be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You cannot go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trails to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people do not necessarily have th they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness waits for those who cry, those appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Always put yourself in others’ shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

NASA’s Mars detector (探测器), Opportunity, succeeded in finding signs that water once existed on the planet. Opportunity landed on Mars in January. Scientists now believe that the planet could once have supported life.
This discovery was chosen by Science, one of the world’s leading magazines, as the most important scientific achievement of 2004 last Friday.
“This little, wheeled, one-armed box went around another planet and has done something no human has ever managed,” according to Science. “It has discovered another place in the universe where life could once have existed.”
“Although we still can’t say that life could have existed in this environment, it is now certain that there was water on Mars,” said Steve Squyres, one of the scientists working on the Mars mission. The evidence comes from pictures and chemical readings taken by Opportunity. It includes marks on rocks like those caused by flowing water on Earth and salty chemicals like those found in dried-out sea-beds. Scientists said the new evidence proved beyond doubt that water has existed on Mars. But it is still unknown whether the water on Mars was like an ocean or just ice.
While Opportunity has not found any signs of life, the presence of water means life is possible. “In everything we know about life on Earth, there is no example without liquid water,” Squyres said. “So water is important for the search for life on Mars.”
Researchers agree that a future mission (任务) should bring back physical samples (样品). But some scientists worry about the risk that this could introduce dangerous foreign creatures to Earth. “The problem here is how to get the samples back,” Squyres replied. “I think it is our responsibility to limit any risk.”
57. ________ prove that water existed on Mars.
A. The physical samples with salty chemicals
B. The marks on rocks and salty chemicals
C. Scientific achievements of 2004
D. Creatures from Mars
58. Which of the following is TURE according to the text?
A. It is now certain that there was water on Mars.
B. The water on Mars was like an ocean.
C. Evidence of life on Mars has been found.
D. Search for life on Mars is a great risk to humans.
59. How did scientists draw the conclusion that there was water on Mars?
A. The world’s leading magazine has announced the fact.
B. Scientists have taken many pictures and chemical readings on the Mars.
C. Astronauts have got some rocks from Mars.
D. Scientists have made a study of the pictures and readings sent back by Mars detector.
60. It can be inferred that, if the creatures from Mars came to Earth, ________.
A. they would be kind to humans
B. they would be cruel to humans
C. they would be a great danger to Earth
D. it would be hard to say whether it would be a good news or bad new

Work is a part
of living—my grandparents understood that. They lived and worked on a farm that
has been in my family for 150 years. They raised chickens for eggs, pigs and
cattle for meat. Cows were kept for milk and the cream, from which Grandma made
butter and cheese. What little yard they had became a garden.
Depression, therefore, didn’t make much change in their lives. But it did bring
an unending flow of men out of work, drifting from job to job, to the farm. The
first to show up at the door of the kitchen was a man in rags. He took off his
hat and quietly explained that he hadn’t eaten for a while. Grandpa stood
watching him a bit , then said , “There’s a stack of firewood against the fence
behind the barn (谷仓). I’ve been needing to get it moved to the other
side of the fence. You have just about enough time to finish the job before
Grandma said a
surprising thing happened. The man got a shine in his eyes and he hurried to
the barn at once. She set another place at the table and made an apple pie.
During lunch, the stranger didn’t say much, but when he left, his shoulders had
straightened. “Nothing ruins a man like losing his self-respect,” Grandpa later
Soon after,
another man showed up asking for a meal. This one was dressed in a suit and
carried a small old suitcase. Grandpa came out when he heard voices. He looked
at the man and then offered a handshake.” There is a stack of firewood along
the fence down behind the barn I’ve been meaning to get it moved. It’d sure be
a help to me. And we’d be pleased to have you stay for lunch.” The fellow set
his suitcase aside and neatly laid his coat on top. Then he set off to work.
