Mendoza Wine
Mendoza is by far the largest and most prolific wine region in all of Argentina. It&s part of the larger, Cuyo region, in the west of the country, bordering the Andes, which provide a good deal of climate protection. The area is mostly hot and dry, but there is some natural river irrigation, particularly from the Mendoza from which it is named. The biggest threat is from the dry, &Zonda& winds, which have been known to damage the grapes. Many of the vineyards are high altitude, some crazy, dizzyingly high, with published reports of as high as 5600 feet above sea level. This allows for precisioned grape-growing for maximum ripeness and temperature control. The soils tend to be alluvial clay (sand over clay). Because the harvest season is predictably warm and dry from year to year, there is little vintage variation and wine-makers have advantageous control over the styles of wine and varietals produced.

Had this with Lunch at Maguires in Addison a month ago. Nice simple little number. Soft, round mouthful, with loads of spice, deep dark fruit with nicely balanced low Tannins and Acidity. Can't see this improving any with age - an everyday drinker.
Well built and a perfect foil to steak. Large darkberry fruit than smooth and easy to drink.

This low-tanin, but heavy Syrah pairs wonderfully with a well-spiced, grilled steak. The wine exudes dense, full oak aromas and spice and finishes with a rich, lush and mouth-filling feel.

I had the 2014 with a beef filet mignon simply flipped on the grill and it was good! Some smoke was in evidence! RICH WINE HERE!

Wow - this was tremendous for the money spent.
A solid body of dark cherry, plum and blackberry with pepper, mocha, chocolate and a little dirt.
This are smooth and the acidity is well balanced - really, really good.

the struggle is that, while this wine is decent on the palate, not knowing the varieties makes one question the quality.
