Communicating withstudents has always occupied the greatest part of teachers’ career. In old timebefore computer and Internet came up, most teachers have to talk to theirstudents face to face. This situation has been soon changed after humankindinvented Email, a great invention for communication. Nowadays, more and moreteachers rely on Email to have conversations with their students. From my pointof view, it definitely is a better choice in most cases.
For some privatetopics, communicating with students on Internet protects children’s privacy andself-respect. As we all know, the conversation happened between a teacher and astudent often involves many little secrets of student, such as grades of finalexamination, future life plan, the judgment of their assignment, and some timeseven the financial situation of family. Though some students perhaps do notcare about others knowing this kind of information, there are still many studentsfeel offended when their teacher talk about those things in front of the wholeclass. Moreover, the direct communication often incurs an awkward atmosphere.Apparently, these problems can be easily solved if teacher sends Email to studentsto communicate.
For some commontopics, sending E-mail is much more fast and convenient than traditional way. WithoutE-mail, teacher have to resemble all students in class to announce someproposals (e.g. the requirement and deadline of paper) and at the same time maintainthe discipline to avoid noisy so that they can make sure that every student isinformed. To collect the responses of a question, teachers need to record or atleast remember all students’ answers. The advent of Email saves teachers fromthis complex and annoying work. For example, if a teacher wants to correct amistake he made during the procession of his class, he can write a short E-mailquickly and send it to all students only by one click. And if there is anybodywho has a question, he could immediately response by sending an E-mail to letteacher know.
Nonetheless, itdoesn’t mean teachers are not required to communicate with students face toface any more. In some particular situations, teachers should communicate withstudents directly. For instant, if a student has a emergency, such asfeeling stomachache, having some psychological problems, or fighting with others, asthe person who is in charge, of course teacher is supposed to communicate withstudent directly to recieve more details, which is the first step of the emergency plan.
In a word, communicating with students by sending E-mail is better than having a conversation directly, unless in some particular situation.
