　　作为一个主要负责理工科申请的老师，看到自己手中十多份宾大、哥大、berkeley的录取，真心为我的学生们高兴!可能由于是学理工科的原因，我的学生们大多不善言辞，很多时候需要文案老师下功夫，才能发觉出孩子们的闪光点。而美国的名校，看中的不仅仅是学生们的成绩，更重要的是学生在本专业的建树，这与一份好的文书是分不开的。　　Curriculum Vitae，源自拉丁语“the course of a life”。第一个CV可能是500年前达芬奇写的。从那时起，CV写作有了一定的发展，现在一份成功的简历可以突出优势弥补不足，但仍有学生常常走入误区。　　而一份成功的简历，不仅可以用于网申，更可以用于套磁、面试等等!我的学生徐同学，在和教授套磁时，用托福写作29的文笔，写下了既专业又真诚的套磁信。但是很少有教授回复。原因不是学生不够优秀，主要原因很明显是：教授都很忙!　　后来我为他设计了属于他自己的CV，我们用简短的cover letter来表达自己的research interest，再附上一段CV中最有利于他申请的段落。这样的套磁信，几乎每发必中。教授都很忙!他们根本没有时间去看你洋洋洒洒100字的自我介绍，反而，对于精干又条理清晰的CV，你的特色将会一目了然。　　什么是学术简历(Academic CV)?　　学术个人简历：一个人的教育和专业历史的大纲，通常为申请做准备。简历是最灵活、最方便的方式，若简历是一种营销文件，那你所推销的东西就是你自己!你需要“推销”你的技巧、能力、资历和经验。　　Admission committee的老师们可能面对500个人的简历，从中挑选50名录取的学生。如果你的简历阅读起来没有重点、条理不清、布局不好或包含太多与申请不相关的信息，那他们就只好move on到下一个申请者的简历了。　　所以简历看起来丰富与否并不重要。只要整理你的简历，分解成容易消化的点点滴滴(如段落和标题的形式)，并给它一个清晰的逻辑布局，只包含相关的信息，以方便进行选择性的阅读。如果你这样做了，那你被录取的机会就会更大了。　　学术简历该怎么写?　　申请留学的CV不是编年表。需要编排为最有利于你的申请专业的形式，突出你的专业特色和相关经历，明确你的申请目标。特别是申请博士的学生，简历的整个重点都应该围绕着你申请的方向，将你所有相关的研究经历都体现出来。　　一、通常简历中该包含的内容　　CV中的内容很灵活，像申请博士的学生，重点应该放在在申请实验室的研究经历上，亦或申请软件工程的学生Fir同学，虽然在学校中没有机会进入实验室，但在intel实习，并且在github有自己的开源工程，这样的经历就是点睛之笔了。　　1. Education　　· College and university degrees　　· Comprehensive areas　　· Did You Know?　　CVs vary widely by discipline, from headings to the details included. Check your department to find out what is customary within your field.　　Tip　　For discipline-specific examples of CVs, check the websites of faculty in your department or the same department at other universities. Many will have their CV online.　　Course highlights(万不得已的情况下，不需要写太多，因为我们已经提交过成绩单了)　　2. Thesis　　o Doctoral dissertation　　o Master's Thesis　　o Bachelor’s Thesis　　3. Honors and Awards　　如果list太长，你可以将最牛掰的Top5写在 “Selected Honors and Awards”.　　· Academic awards　　· Distinctions　　· Fellowships　　· Grants　　· Honors and awards　　4. Research experience　　应该用倒叙的形式，不可少的内容有：your title, department, university, city, state and dates (years only).　　在describing activities时，我们需要使用 specific action verbs. 当然，如果在describing your dissertation, 我们还需要包括 a brief overview of impact. 其他的research projects, 是需要重点放在自己的 accomplishments.　　5. Publications　　需要按照文献引用格式，国内的出版物统一使用GB7714标准(GB表示“国标”的意思，过去是GB7714-87，是87年出的强制标准;谷歌里自动生成的是按GB/T ，是2005推荐标准，T表示“推”);而国外杂志有具体要求，一般按照MLA(Modern Language Association)、APA(American Psychological Association) 等规范著录。　　GB/T 7714Tang C K, Medioni G. Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on, 24(6), 858-864.　　此外，一定要注明是第几作者(authored or co-authored.)并且表明这个文章是用中文还是英文写的。我的学生John发表过4篇论文，但其中有一篇关于MRI的文章是用中文写的，但申请时简历中他并没有标明。最后结果是，一个做MRI的教授本来很看好他，邀请他面试，面试中提问了很多关于MRI的专业问题，由于John对英文术语的陌生，使得面试过程很不顺利，最后教授开始怀疑John的研究的真实性!!　　当然，也接受还没有被检索的文章，写为&as submitted& or &in preparation”。不过前提是你已经出版过其他文章了。　　6. Patents　　专利是工科学生的强项。尤其是现在新型实用专利在大学中比较好申请，所以很多学生以此来突出自己的特长。与publication的要求相同，现在中国的专利也都可以在google scholar上搜索到，在CV中加上一个超链接，不失为一个好方法。　　7. General experience　　· Administrative experience　　· Consulting experience　　· Professional experience　　· Related experience　　8. International experience　　· Foreign study　　· Travel abroad　　9. Professional Affiliations　　· Professional Associations　　· Other affiliations　　二、A Note on Competencies　　这一部分需要根据自己的实际情况来写。可以写入的内容包括：　　· Languages　　· Areas of expertise　　· Committee leadership　　· Departmental leadership　　· Faculty leadership　　· Professional activities　　· Professional competancies　　· Research interests　　· Teaching interests　　有心的同学可能会注意到，这样分类怎么没地方写托福和GRE/GMAT成绩呢?Standardized Test是我们网申时必填的一项内容，除非成绩特别突出，否则不需要再浪费地方重写一次了。　　三、Organize those according to your strengths　　Ben同学有着很强的研究背景，才20岁的他已经发表了4篇论文。但是由于他整天泡在实验室，课业成绩并不突出，所以获得的奖项很少，只有大一获得的一项，所以我们将publication重点放在CV的前面，舍去了&Honors and Awards& section 而将其补充在了education的子项中。　　最后，我想在这里消除几个误区。　　1. 实习经验有那么重要吗?理工科学生，并不像的学生要求很多的实习经验。很多商学院本科要求学生修3个月以上，14学分的实习学分。而通常理工科只需要2-4学分的2周暑期生产实践即可。我们本科课程设计上是有道理的。因为理工科学生需要花更多的精力在科学、技术的研究上。通常理工科需要修160学分才能毕业，而文商科一般是140学分。很多理工学生是没有实习经验的，这不是你的劣势，而是正常。(很多理工科学生在这里又有疑问了。当然，如果你有相关专业领域的实习经验是很好的。IBM每年的blue计划，intel的实习，都是很好的平台。)　　2. 课外活动经历很多是好事吗?很多学生与我第一次见面的时候，兴高采烈地告诉我，他参加过多少社团，参与过多少活动，组织过多少比赛。但当我问及他专业领域内的活动时，他就哑然了。当然，做了那么多课外活动，自然没有时间去做专业领域内的活动。不仅我这样想，如果这样一份CV去申请，admission faculty也会这样想。　　3. 如果在本专业中，既没有研究经历、也没有实习过、课业成绩也不理想，那这样的情况是不是CV中就无话可说了?答案：当然不是!这种情况就需要我们具体问题具体分析了。　　使用手机在应用商店搜索“”，有美国顶尖名校的文书题目、范文，中英解析和免费视频！　　关注老查公众号（laocha100），为您推送美国前TOP30，英国G5等顶尖大学信息。　　在公众号回复关键词：家长、排名、网站、背景、TED，将获得对应资源。

　　首先，一般学校要求不超过2页。除了基本的个人信息，简历还应该包括教育背景，社会活动(课外活动、实习经历、志愿者服务、工作经历等等)，获得奖项。建议:在简历中再加上英语技能、计算机应用技能和个人兴趣。这三项内容所占空间不多，但能帮助学校更全面的了解自己。
　　简历中的社会活动部分，是重中之重，因此在此着重说明。大部分申请人都是在读学生，因此往往缺乏工作经验(实战经验)，而很多能力是需要在工作中体现出来。那么如何弥补呢？就得依靠平时的社会和课外活动了。因此，切忌在简历中简单罗列自己参加的活动，而应该在参加的每个活动后面再简单描述自己在活动中所担任的职能，所做的工作，以及取得的成果，帮助录取委员会更全面地了解自己。
　　其次是最重要的个人陈述的写作。一般来说，个人陈述需要回答三个问题，
　　(1)为何想申请该专业？
　　(2)过去经历是如何影响你的这个决定？
　　(3)你未来的职业规划是什么？
　　个人陈述是所有文书材料中最能体现学生个人能力的文件，一篇好的个人陈述，需要在短短的1500字(有时甚至更少)内，将学生的个人能力，学习能力和培养潜力充分表达出来，对申请人的写作和表达能力是一个极大的挑战。纵观以往的个人陈述风格，一般来说，个人陈述创作可以分为两种类型：个人导向型(Personal-Based)和专业导向型(Professional-Based)。
　　个人导向型个人陈述，开头以个人经历来打动录取委员，幼时的经历，父母的影响，老师的引导等等。中间部分阐述自己在学习和成长过程为该专业的申请所做的准备，包括学习成绩、自身能力的锻炼和培养。最后，表达自己对攻读该专业的意愿和决心，并明确表达自己学成后的职业规划和目标。个人导向型个人陈述相对来说对于专业知识的要求比较低，比较适合对于专业了解不深入，比如转专业或者本科生申请。特别是，作为十几岁的高中学生，对于某一专业知识的认识一般比较浅显，因此比较适合走个人导向型路线。
　　专业导向型个人陈述，全篇以个人对于拟申专业的了解和认识为主线，着重突出对该专业在中国现状和发展的认识，该专业在美国发展的成熟和先进，表达自己对先进知识的追求和向往。最后说明中国目前缺乏这方面的专业人才，自己学成后对于中国专业人才的补充，进而上升为自己学习该专业的重大意义。专业导向型个人陈述更适用研究生申请。
　　对于研究生申请，无论是硕士和博士生，对申请专业的研究方向最好有一个比较明确的目标(这对博士生申请尤为重要)，向学校表明自己的专业素养以及培养潜质，一方面这是有目的有针对性地申请，另一方面自己已打下结实的基本理论知识基础，发现自己对该专业的激情和热爱，因此希望能更进一步地学习和深造。
　　尽管写作类型不同，但个人陈述中需要着重突出的能力还是一致的，这主要包括领导力、团队协作和沟通能力等。这些都可以在描述学习活动、社会活动和研究工作中体现出来。比如，在学习活动中与同学组成学习小组，互相帮助和提高学习成绩体现团队协作能力；或者在课堂项目活动中，作为小组组长领导小组完成小组任务，表现领导力。再如，在课外活动中参加各种才艺表演或者知识竞赛等，体现自己的表达能力和创新能力；参加学校研究活动时，如何发挥刻苦钻研精神，为了回答和解决问题，努力不懈地学习和提高，说明自己有强烈的求知欲和好奇心，具备了基本的研究素养。以上这些能力在推荐信中通过第三人客观评价的形式再次强化，使得申请人的形象得到升华和提升，帮助申请人在录取委员会面前呈现出自己最好的一面。这样就可以获得更大把握的被美国本科大学录取了。
