With further increasein potential to 0 V, an excellent passivation behaviorwas observed. The passivation maintaineduntil the potential reached 0.62 V, then the currentstarted to increase again, implying oxide transformationfrom one form to another. The additionof H2O2 into the buffered solution changes thepotentiodynamic behavior of Ni significantly. Initially,the potential was scanned in the positivedirection from a potential –500 mV below opencircuit potential. It was observed that the cathodicreduction of H2O2 predominated over the anodicdissolution of Ni. As the electrode potential wasscanned further in the positive direction to 200 mVabove OCP, the net anodic current density increasedby almost three orders of magnitude fromcorrosion current density. In contrast to the passivationbehavior of Ni in peroxide-free solution,active dissolution behavior was observed for Ni insolutions containing H2O2. Fig. 3 shows the corrosioncurrent density and the electrochemicalpotentials measured at different peroxide concentrations.The corrosion currentdensity shows areversed trend with the observed removal rate invarious H2O2 concentrations. This might be due tothe positive shift of corrosion potential into thepassive region of Ni. In order to clarify the feature of nickel anodicbehavior in solutions without and with peroxide,we studied the anodic behavior of nickel subsubsequentto cathodic pretreatment. The cathodicpretreatment is usually conducted in order to reducethe metal oxides covering the metal surfaceduring its exposure in air or in the solution. Thecathodic reduction of nickel surface oxide specieswas conducted at an applied potential of )1 V fora period of 1 min. Nickel surface cathodic pretreatmentwas followed immediately by a potentiodynamicsweep of the applied potential.
