发电机的碳刷又叫电刷,因为它的材料是"碳",所以经常被称作"碳刷".碳刷的作用是把电机外部的电源(一般是直流的励磁电流),通过滑环(在转子上,随转子一同运转),提供到转子的绕组(励磁绕组)上去.

【摘要】碳刷是发电机转动部分的滑环与静止部分的接触点，碳刷性能的好坏，直接影响到发电机的运行工况，然而实际运行中，碳刷与滑环发热现象极为普遍，如果不能及时有效地采取措施加以处理，或者处理不得当，将会扩大故障，造成严重发热、滑环烧坏，导致发电机停机事故；造成不必要的损失。针对水力发电厂机组滑环及碳刷烧坏的原因进行分析，提出改进措施。（剩余2529字）
