World Leaders Urge Tangible Results in the slow-moving Lima climate talks
The UN sponsored climate talks in Lima, Peru are set to come to a conclusion tomorrow, with world leaders issuing calls for tangible results to be reached so that a final agreement can be signed in Paris in a year's time.
CRI's Wang Mengzhen has more.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on the delegates from over the 190 countries in Peru to deliver a draft, in an attempt to provide a "solid foundation" for an international agreement in Paris next December.
"I urge all delegations to overcome all procedural matters and deliver a draft negotiating text with a formal status, so that the work on negotiation can begin in earnest at the February session. We don't have a moment to lose."
China's chief climate negotiator Xie Zhenhua has been meeting with non-governmental organizations in the lead-up to the conclusion of the event.
The deputy chief of the National Development and Reform Commission is urging delegates in Lima to create concrete action before 2020, rather than looking to the distant future.
At the same time, Xie Zhenhua says China has no desire to tap into a 100-billion US dollar Green Climate Fund being sponsored by wealthy countries to help the developing world fight climate change.
"The Green Climate fund is meant to help developing countries improve their capacity to tackle the climate change. It is a comparatively small sum of money, so China doesn't want to vie for money with impoverished developing countries. Instead, we will help them build their capacity through a south-south cooperation fund."
China has been putting aside 10-million US dollars a year for the last 3-years to seed the south-south cooperation fund.
That figure is going to be doubled next year.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Lima for the conclusion of the climate change negotiations.
His arrival is meant to be a message to the world that the United States wants to be a leader in the fight against global warming.
Kerry has also lauded the work his country and China have been doing this year to deal with climate change.
"The United States and China, two countries long regarded as the leaders of opposing camps in these negotiations have now found common ground on this issue. That is a historic milestone and it should send a clear message to all of us that the road blocks we've hit for decades can be removed from our path."

US North Korean Envoy Urges "Concrete Indications" before Resumption of Nuclear Talks
A senior US diplomat is calling on North Korea to create the conditions for a resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.
Sung Kim, the United States' newly-appointed special envoy for North Korean affairs, has made the suggestion in Beijing, which is the last stop on his current tour including Japan and South Korea.
"There is no timetable with regards to the resumption of the talks. I think we still need to see some more concrete indications from the North. Well I don't want to go to the details. But very generally speaking it would be hard for us to negotiating with them while they continue to carry out nuclear activities, activities that are clearly banned not just by their own commitments in the six-party process but by a host of UN Security Council resolutions."
The US has been demanding Pyongyang "completely and irreversibly" abandon its nuclear program, and shows no concession so far.
North Korea has been signaling in recent weeks that it may be prepared to restart the six-party talks, without pre-conditions.
The six-party talks, which have included China, Japan, North and South Korea, Russia and the United States, were initiated after North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2003.
The process has been stalled since North Korea walked out of the negotiations in 2008.
CIA Director John Brennan on Interrogation Report
CIA Director John Brennan has stepped up to defended his agency in the wake of this week's damning US Senate report highlighting the wide-spread use of torture to interrogate suspects following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Brennan contends some information, including the details that led to Osama Bin Laden, did come out from detainees who were subject to torture techniques.
"The cost and effectiveness relationship between the application of those EITs and the ultimate provision of the information is unknown and unknowable."
At the same time, Brennan notes the enhanced interrogation technics exposed by the new Senate report were abandoned in 2007.
"In light of the fact that these technics were abandoned seven years ago however my fervent hope is that we can put aside this debate and move forward to focus on issues that are relevant to our current national security challenges."
Brennan's rare public comments come amid mounting calls for those who sanctioned the advanced interrogation techniques to be prosecuted.
US House passes $1.1 trillion bill to avoid shutdown
The US House of Representatives has passed a 1.1 trillion dollar budget, just hours before the government was due to be shut down.
The measure passed by just 13-votes in the House on an appeal from President Barack Obama to his fellow Democrats to support the budget.
The new spending bill will keep the government solvent until September.
However, some areas will only receive short-term funding, including the Department of Homeland Security.
The new bill also includes an emergency funding request from the White House for helping the fight against Ebola in West Africa.
It also includes money to continue funding US-led air strikes against the Islamic State.
The Senate has given itself additional 48 hours to review the new funding proposal before voting on it.
It's widely expected to be approved by the Senate before moving on to the White House for Obama's signature.
Palestinians Vow to Continue with Struggles after Minister's Death
Palestinians are vowing to continue their fight for their own state as people bid farewell to a government minister who died during a demonstration this week near the city of Ramallah.
CRI's Min Rui has more.
Thousands of Palestinians gathered in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Thursday to mourn Palestinian minister Ziad Abu Ein.
Haitham Arar, a member of the Revolutionary Council of Fatah, says the minister's death was a crime.
"We condemn the crime that the Israelis did yesterday. We, as Palestinian people, we fed up with the Israeli policies. We gave them 20 years of negotiation and they didn't give us anything except settlements, killing Palestinians, confiscating our lands, closing Jerusalem... so they are not ready for peace."
Amid Israeli fears that the minister's death could spark violence in the West Bank, Haitham Arar says the tension is palpable.
"There is a lot of frustration among the Palestinians and at the same time there are a lot of Israeli trends to escalate the situation here. So it's our right to defend ourselves against the Israeli escalation of violence. We are people under occupation, and we have to end this occupation."
Loay Ghashash, a Palestinian who came to Abu Ein's funeral, says protesters will follow in the footsteps of the late minister.
"We will continue demonstrating peacefully against settlements. Palestine should be free and will be free. (No matter) how many people they (Israelis) will kill, it will not make any change. We will achieve our independent state."
Abu Ein's death prompted the Palestinian leadership to halt security coordination with Israel, which Israel doesn't want to.
Nimrod Shefer is a senior official from the Israeli army.
"We see security coordination as a very important part of the security of both sides, Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and we'll do whatever is necessary to keep it as it is right now."
While Israel promised to conduct a thorough investigation into Abu Ein's death, Israeli and Palestinian officials issued conflicting accounts over the results of the autopsy.
Palestinians says Abu Ein died from being struck, inhaling tear gas and not receiving prompt medical attention, and Israel was completely responsible for his death. The Israeli health ministry, on the other hand, says the death was caused by a "blockage of the coronary artery" which "could have been caused by stress".

Middle Route of China's South-North Water Diversion Projects Operates Today
The middle route of the South-North Water Diversion Project has become operational today.
The over 14-hundred kilometer route is bringing water from the Yangtze River to northern China.
The flow of water is expected to reach Beijing just over 2-weeks through a series of canals and pipes.
The construction of the middle route of the massive project took over a decade to complete, at a cost of over 30-billion US dollars.
Preparations underway for ceremony marking the National Memorial Day
Preparations are in the final stages for this year's first-ever state memorial ceremony for the Nanjing Massacre victims, which will take place tomorrow.
For more on the preparations for the historic event, we're live on the line by our reporter Cao Yuwei, who is in Nanjing.

"Survivor Testimony" for the Nanjing Massacre5: Yi Lanying
Tomorrow, December 13th, is going to mark China's first-ever National Memorial Day for the Nanjing Massacre.
Today, we conclude our series of reports, bringing you the stories of some of those people who managed to survive the massacre by the Japanese army.
Here is CRI's Wang Wei.
"At the time, I was 12 years old. I was sitting on the street selling peanuts when a Japanese military officer riding a horse came by with a few soldiers behind him. He got off the horse and slapped me. He hit me so hard that it made my ear bleed. Despite the pain, I didn't yell, cry or make any noise. The blow also knocked out some of my teeth and left me deaf in that ear."
This is Yi Lanying.
The vicious blow by the Japanese officer on that day 87-years ago has left her deaf in one-ear ever since.
After being slapped by the soldier, Yi and her family decided to flee to the refugee area along Shanghai road in Nanjing.
But she says even there, they weren't safe.
"Seeing any door that wasn't closed, Japanese soldiers would break in, drag young people out on the streets. Hours later, the sound of machine guns began to ring out everywhere."
To avoid being raped and abused by the Japanese soldiers, Yi's sister and sister-in-law decided to take refuge in the nearby Jinling Women's University, which was run at the time by an American church.
The women's university in Nanjing has since become famous through a pair of films which have since documented the Nanjing Massacre.
The university sheltered tens-of-thousands of women and children over the 6-weeks of the Nanjing Massacre.
At the time, it was one of just a handful of safe zones in the city.
But as the films have depicted, the University eventually became a target for Japanese soldiers looking for women and girls to rape.
Yi Lanying says the people in-charge of the University was left with difficult choices when the Japanese soldiers forced their way in.
"The director said, 'if you want others to live, some will need to go with the Japanese soldiers.' Several girls voluntarily left with the Japanese soldiers. After that, the Japanese soldiers didn't harass us anymore."
Estimates are that at least 20-thousand women were raped, and around 300-thousand killed during the 6-week rampage, which began on December 13th, 1937.

First, let's have a look at the numbers across the Asian markets this Friday evening.
Joining me on the desk is Fei Fei.
Mainland markets closed mixed today, with the two bourses taking different directions following the release of fresh new economic data.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.4 percent.
The Shenzhen Component Index ended down 0.2 percent.
The new economic data released today includes industrial output and fixed asset investment figures for last month, with both slipping compared with a year earlier.
The steel, water, gas and paper sectors were the big losers on the day, losing on average half a percent.
E-commerce and software developers bucked the trend, gaining over 2 percent.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng lost 0.3 percent, led down once-again by a sell-off in the banking sector.
HSBC edged down 0.9 percent.
ICBC declined 0.8 percent.
Elsewhere in Asia,
The Japanese Nikkei gained 0.7 percent on the back of reduced global oil prices.
South Korea's KOSPI added 0.3 percent, largely on the same good news.
In Australia, the ASX 200 slid 0.2 percent.
And in Singapore, the Straits Times Index rose 0.2 percent.
Global oil price falls below 60 USD per barrel
Global oil prices have fallen below 60 US dollars per barrel.
The decline has exacerbated after Kuwait, the third largest producer in OPEC, announced its cutting its sales prices for crude to its Asian clients.
This comes as regulators here in China adjust prices at the pumps.
The National Development and Reform Commission is cutting retail fuel prices at the pumps by 0.13-yuan for regular gasoline.
Diesel prices are coming down 0.3-yuan.
The cut follows a fuel tax increase by the Ministry of Finance.
The Finance Ministry is adding 0.2 yuan per liter tax on both regular gasoline and diesel starting tomorrow.
This has effectively rendered today's price cut moot.
The Finance Ministry contends the tax hike will help reduce emissions.
However, most observers see the tax hike as a balancing move to appease complaints by China's big-3 oil giants, who say the dramatic reduction in global oil prices could destabilize the market.
Sinopec, CNPC and CNOOC have all spent lavishly on major overseas investments in recent years.
Momo's debut on Nasdaq a surprise success
Chinese social networking platform Momo has jumped out to a solid debut on the Nasdaq.
Shares of the company surged 26-percent on Thursday to close at around 17-dollars per share.
The location-based app allows users to send text, photos or video to strangers nearby.
The mobile app is proving popular with the post-90's generation in China.
Momo's IPO got its main backing from Alibaba, which holds a 21 percent stake in the company.
Momo has over 60 million active users.
Momo violates ethics
Despite its successful debut on the Nasdaq, Momo has run into a bit of trouble back here in China.
The company is being accused by rival NetEast of 'violating ethics.'

10 Shanghai-listed firms issue delisting warning
Ten different companies listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange have issued warnings to their investors that their shares may be suspended, and even delisted in the coming year.
This is the first time companies trading on the A-share market have been forced to issue the warning.
The companies' shares are going to have to continue to be traded for the next 30-days.
This will give share-holders time to dump the stocks from their portfolio if they choose.
Under the rules on the A-share market, if a company continues to lose money for three consecutive years, regulators have the ability to pull the stocks off the trading board.
China's industrial output growth dips in November
Industrial output in China has slid for a 3rd consecutive month in November.
New stats show total output increased 7.2-percent year-on-year last month.
The rate of industrial growth is down from 7.7-percent in October and an 8-percent in September.
Calculations show China's industrial output only expanded 7.3-percent in the third quarter.
This is the lowest level since the 2008 global financial crisis.
Housing Ministry official slams calls for government to shore up housing market
A senior policy maker with China's Ministry of Housing is slamming calls for the government to intervene to shore up the property market.
Qin Hong, director of the Policy Studies Institute with the ministry argues 90-percent of new homes currently being built are not being filled.
As such, Qin Hong says any measures by the government to intervene at this time would be unsustainable.
The comments coincide with the release of a resolution from the just-concluded Central Economic Work Conference, which, for a third year in a row, hasn't mentioned the property sector.
Observers are suggesting this is a signal that the central government may allow in the property sector to fend for itself in the coming year.
Russian Central Bank Raises Rate again and cuts growth forecast
Russia's central bank has raised its benchmark interest rate from 9.5 percent to 10.5 percent in an attempt to curb rising inflation.
This is the 5th time Russia has raised its interest rates this year.
It comes as the Russian ruble continues to lose value.
The Russian currency is down nearly 40 percent against the US dollar this year.
Previous interest rate increases have done little to quell inflation or affect the price of the ruble.
China Communications Construction buys John Holland
China Communications Construction Company is set to buy smaller Australian counterpart John Holland construction.
The acquisition is worth around 950-million US dollars.
The deal is still subject to approval by Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board.
If approved, the deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter.
China Communications Construction focuses on building transportation infrastructure.
It's the fourth largest construction company in the world by revenues.
Jack Ma surpasses Li-ka-shing to become Asia's richest man
Alibaba founder Jack Ma is now the richest person in Asia.
The 50-year-old has reportedly surpassed Hong Kong property tycoon Li Ka-shing by some 300 million US dollars to take over as the richest individual in Asia.
Ma's personal fortune is said to be worth 28.6-billion US dollars.

Iran, powers to resume nuclear talks

Iran and the world powers agreed to extend their nuclear talks for another 7-months in November after failing to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement last month.
Sri Lanka air force plane crashes
Four people have been killed after a Sri Lankan military plane came down today on the outskirts of the capital, Colombo.
The plane was carrying five crew members.
One managed to survive the crash.
The Sri Lankan Airforce say the pilot reported difficulty in locating the landing strip before losing contact with the tower.
China, U.S. hold new talks on investment treaty
The latest round of China-U.S. investment treaty negotiations has begun in Beijing.
China's Commerce Ministry says the two sides are ramping up discussions on "core issues of the treaty text" in an attempt to try to complete the talks during this current round of negotiations, which will last for 5-days.
The Chinese and US sides are working on the creation of a "negative list," which are sectors and items which will be excluded from investment.
A "negative list" is seen as much more efficient than a list of items and sectors which are deemed "investment-friendly."
Middle Route of China's South-North Water Diversion Projects Operates Today
The middle route of the South-North Water Diversion Project has become operational today.
The over 14-hundred kilometer route is bringing water from the Yangtze River to northern China.
The flow of water is expected to reach Beijing just over 2-weeks through a series of canals and pipes.
The construction of the middle route of the massive project took over a decade to complete, at a cost of over 30-billion US dollars.
Global oil price falls below 60 USD per barrel
Global oil prices have fallen below 60 US dollars per barrel, after Kuwait announced its cutting its sales prices for crude to its Asian clients.
This comes as regulators here in China adjust prices at the pumps.
The National Development and Reform Commission is cutting retail fuel prices at the pumps by 0.13-yuan for regular gasoline.
Diesel prices are coming down 0.3-yuan.
At the meantime, the Finance Ministry is adding 0.2 yuan per liter tax on both regular gasoline and diesel starting tomorrow.

Staggered work times proposed
Shanghai Government Development and Research Center said it will consider staggering people's working hours in a bid to help reduce traffic congestion, during rush hour periods.
The announcement was made in response to a proposal from a lawmaker.
Saying the government should divide people into five categories based on the sector in which they work ― education, factory, hospital, office, and entertainment ― and then allocate each a different start time.
According to the lawmaker, at present, most people head to work between 8am and 9am, which causes a lot of congestion.
Local authorities say the plan could be successful if local firms are prepared to introduce flexible working hours, adding that some employees should be allowed to work from home.

Dancers get in step to build a community
For many middle-aged Chinese women, the square dance, a type of line dancing performed in public squares, is a popular form of exercise.
However, for people who have relocated from the countryside to the city, it's also an important social activity that promotes community spirit.
Kong Zhengnian, a resident in Hefei, the capital of East China's Anhui province, is a popular figure among her community.
The community was relocated in 2010. After that, she headed a 300-member square dance troupe in the community.
On Nov 18, Kong and 11 other dancers representing her community and took part in the world's biggest line dance, as more than 25-thousand dancers set a new Guinness World Record in Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province.
However, critics have complained that the activity is antisocial because of the loud music and the large numbers of people that congregate in public places.
Australian photographer breaks world record with 6.5 mln US dollar picture
It is reported that Australian photographer Peter Lik created a new world record by selling one of his pictures for 6.5 million U.S. dollars.
Named Phantom, the black and white picture shows a shaft of light cutting through an Arizona landscape and is reportedly the most expensive photograph ever sold.
The identity of the buyer wasn't disclosed, but Peter's lawyer vouched for him in a press release.
The lawyer says on his website that to accompany this record sale, Peter's images Illusion and Eternal Moods were also acquired for 2.4 million U.S. dollars and 1.1 million U.S. dollars, respectively.
Along with his sale of One for 1 million U.S. dollars in 2010, Peter now holds four spots out of the top 20 most expensive photographs ever sold.
For kids, weight control could start at bedtime
A new study on sleep and kids has found that sleep deprivation and sleep-related breathing problems raise the risk for obesity by early adolescence.
In a 15-year study that involved nearly 2-thousand children, researchers in New York found the more severe these sleep problems were, the greater the risk for obesity.
Children age 5 and 6 who got less than 10 and a half hours of sleep per night had a 60 to 100 percent increased risk for obesity by age 15.
Many people, including some physicians, see sleep problems primarily as an issue that affects adults.
A separate study found that fewer than 1 in 10 high school students reported are getting nine or more hours of sleep each night.
The CDC recommends that teens get nine or 10 hours of sleep.

Conservators begin work on 2,500 year old Egyptian mummy
Scientists and archaeologists in the US city of Chicago have begun the preservation work on a 25-hundred-year-old Egyptian mummy.
CRI's Sophie Williams has more.
Mindiris was the 14-year old Egyptian son of a priest.
The historians from Chicago's Field Museum opened his coffin last week.
The museum is preparing the 25-hundred-year-old mummy for a travelling exhibit in September.
But his mummified body is in dire need of preservation work before it’s able to travel.
But while the mummy itself deteriorated though the years, the sarcophagus itself managed to survive in much better shape.
And conservators were amazed by some surprising findings.
Morgan Nau is one of the researchers working on Mindiris.
"We found after we took the lid off that we could actually see some faint yellow outlines around the mummy, and we were wondering what it could be because it looked like it was intentional. As soon as we took the mummy out, we found out it was actually a painting of the Goddess Nut."
Nau says the discovery of the drawing was a complete surprise.
"It didn't show up in the CT scan at all. So if we hadn't opened it and taken the mummy out, we wouldn't ever know that this was here."
CT scans showed the boy's feet were detached sideways and partially unwrapped with his toes sticking out.
Despite this, conservator Mimi Leveque says his footwear is similar to the shoes we would wear today
"He's wearing sandals, very much like the sandals we would wear now in the summer, with a nice pedicure."
Leveque also points out that the mummy's collar includes one of the oldest pigments known to mankind
"This is a material called Egyptian blue. It was the very first synthetic pigment anyone ever made, as far as we know. And it's made of glass that had copper in it."
His shroud and mask were torn and twisted sideways. Conservators plan to fix those too.
Specifically, conservators are creating wood pieces to repair broken sections of the coffin. They're also using new linen to fill holes and gaps in the death mask.
They also have to do work to shore up the coffin and mummy so they can withstand travel involved with moving the exhibition.
Once the preservation work is complete, the mummy and sarcophagus of Mindiris will be put on-tour, starting with an exhibition in Los Angeles in September.

Three-time champions Kuwait SC are looking to extend their record haul of AFC Cup titles and are in confident mood following Tuesday's draw in Kuala Lumpur.
In Group D, Kuwait SC will face either Bahraini outfit Riffa or Manama, Nejmah of Lebanon and one of four teams who advance from the AFC Cup play-offs in the East.
Elsewhere in the West, Group B will see Iraqi Premier League champions Al Shorta take on a pair of debutants in Palestine's Taraji Wadi Al Nes and Al Jazeera of Jordan, in addition to a play-off winner.

Jason Day and Cameron Tringale teamed up to grab a two stroke lead earlier today in the scramble format opening round of the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Florida.
Day and Tringale birdied holes 9 to 12, then eagled holes 13 and 14 before going on another four-hole birdie binge on 15 through 18 to record a tournament record round of 55, 17-under-par.
Two strokes behind were defending champs Matt Kuchar and Harris English at minus-15. The Americans won last year with a tournament record final score of minus-34.
The scramble format has both teammates hit tee shots and the better shot is chosen and then both players play a shot from that spot and continue on until the hole is finished, allowing for the low scores.
The 12 teams of two players each will switch to a modified alternate shot format for Friday's second round and then finish the three day tournament using the better ball format.
Event marks WW1 Christmas truce, when warring sides played football
A monument to what is known as the "Christmas Truce of 1914" was unveiled in Belgium on Thursday by the President of UEFA Michel Platini.
The rust colored sculpture marks a unique event in football history.
At its base lie a smattering of balls and various club pennants, all in remembrance of the Christmas Truce of 1914.
A century ago on Christmas Day, German and British enemies left their World War I trenches and headed into no man's land in a few scattered locations on the Western Front for an unofficial truce among soldiers.
Platini underscored that unique mood of brotherhood at the unveiling of the Christmas monument on the former battlegrounds known as Flanders Fields in western Belgium, the scene of some of the most horrendous killing.
"The next day, two steps from here, at the cross of Saint Yvon and probably at other places along the immense front line from the North Sea to Switzerland, they got a football out, and perhaps a ball of cloth, and had a kick-about."
The monument is a steel ball sitting on the remains of a World War I shell.
NFL: St. Louis Rams fall to Arizona Cardinals

Nick Foligno scored a power-play goal at 4:41 of overtime, Sergei Bobrovsky had 39 saves, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 earlier today.
And the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 for their eighth straight victory - but they lost captain Jonathan Toews to injury in the second period.

2015 Golden Globe nominations
The 2015 Golden Globe nominations have been announced.
And Alejandro Inarritu's dark comedy "Birdman" was the most honored film with seven nods.
The film, which stars Michael Keaton as a washed-up superhero film star trying to revive his career on the stage, secured another boost for its awards season hopes.
Tied for second in the Globes nominations tally were coming-of-age drama "Boyhood" and Nazi code-breaking thriller "The Imitation Game" with five nominations each.
British actor Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for best actor for his role in "The Imitation Game."
Other nominees for best actor in a drama were Steve Carell, David Oyelowo, Eddie Redmayne and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Nominations for the best actress category went to Quvenzhane Wallis, Julianne Moore, Helen Mirren, Amy Adams and Emily Blunt.
In the TV categories, the best drama series nominations went to "The Affair," "Downton Abbey," "Game of Thrones," "The Good Wife" and "House of Cards."
The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards will be handed out on January 11 in Beverly Hills.
Director Ava DuVernay first black woman nominated for a Golden Globe director's prize
Continuing with the Golden Globe nominations...
Director Ava DuVernay made history when her name was read out by Jeremy Piven.
She became the first black woman ever nominated for a Golden Globe director's prize, with her film "Selma."
DuVernay is competing against Wes Anderson, David Fincher, Richard Linklater and Alejandro Inarritu.
"I feel like we're on cloud nine a little bit. We're here in Toronto, it's snowing, everything is white and fluffy, and I do kind of feel like we're on a cloud. We just finished this film very recently. We shot it in 32 days. I still feel like I'm running to catch up to this moment in a way, but the moment is really good."
"Selma" tells the story of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his colleagues as they planned marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, to demand voting rights in 1965.
The movie opens in limited U.S. theaters on Christmas Day, moving to a global release on Jan. 9, 2015.
"Meet Miss Anxiety" hits Chinese theatres today
Chinese romantic comedy "Meet Miss Anxiety" hits theatres in the mainland today.
The film stars Zhou Xun, Tong Dawei, Wallace Chung, and Zhang Zilin.
The story follows a perky woman who's fresh off a recent break-up, and enters an early menopause phase due to the stress of relationships.
She manages to heal herself mentally and physically through a new love.
"Meet Miss Anxiety" is directed by South Korean director Kwak Jae Yong, who's known for his 2001 Korean comedy "My Sassy Girl."
Screenwriters support Taiwan novelist in plagiarism case
More than 100 Chinese screenwriters have voiced support for novelist Chiung Yao, who is currently in a plagiarism battle against scriptwriter Yu Zheng.
Chiung Yao from Taiwan pressed charges against Yu Zheng, claiming that the plot of TV series "The Palace: The Lost Daughter" was almost completely copied without permission from her novel "Plum Blossom Scar."
A total of 109 screenwriters have signed a joint declaration with a list of their names and posted it on microblog site Sina Weibo.
They say they condemn all forms of plagiarism and look forward to justice in the case.
Last Friday, the No. 3 Intermediate People's Court of Beijing held hearings about the plagiarism case.
China International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo opens in Beijing
The 9th China International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo has opened in Beijing.
The expo features the latest products, cutting edge technology and new creations in the cultural field.
Nearly 50 delegations from 32 countries and regions will be at the exhibition.
At the event there will be themed exhibition and trading areas, including a cultural entertainment and sculpture works area, an international cultural creativity area, and an urban sculpture works area among others.
It will run until December 14.
