文章是这样的:In 1955 Maurice Duverger published ThePolitical Role of Women, the first behavioralist, multinational comparison of women’s electoralparticipation ever to use election data and surveydata together. His study analyzed women’s patternsof voting, political candidacy, and political activismin four European countries during the first half ofthe twentieth century. Duverger’s research findingswere that women voted somewhat less frequentlythan men (the difference narrowing the longerwomen had the vote) and were slightly moreconservative.Duverger’s work set an early standard for thesensitive analysis of women’s electoral activities. Moreover, to Duverger’s credit, he placed hisfindings in the context of many of the historicalprocesses that had shaped these activities. However, since these contexts have changedover time, Duverger’s approach has proved moredurable than his actual findings. In addition,Duverger’s discussion of his findings was hamperedby his failure to consider certain specific factorsimportant to women’s electoral participationat the time he collected his data: the influenceof political regimes, the effects of economicfactors, and the ramifications of political andsocial relations between women and men. Giventhis failure, Duverger’s study foreshadowed theenduring limitations of the behavioralist approachto the multinational study of women’s politicalparticipation.95. The passage implies that, in comparing four Europeancountries, Duverger found that the voting rates ofwomen and men were most different in the country inwhich women(A) were most politically active(B) ran for office most often(C) held the most conservative political views(D) had the most egalitarian relations with men(E) had possessed the right to vote for theshortest time答案是E,官方解释:(官方解释看不懂,因为有句话没有理解明白,the difference narrowing the longerwomen had the vote &谁能解释一下这句话的意思?)InferenceTh e comparison of voting rates is discussed at theend of the fi rst paragraph and forms the basis forthe required inference. Duverger found thatwomen voted somewhat less frequently than men butthat this diff erence narrowed the longer the womenhad the vote (lines 9–11). Th at is, there was anongoing process of convergence in voting rates forwomen and men, as the time period for whichwomen had the vote lengthened. Th is suggeststhat at one end, when women had been voting forthe shortest time, voting rates were mostdissimilar, and at the other end, when women hadbeen voting for the longest time, the rates weremost similar.A Women’s political activism is not suggestedas a reason for the diff erence.B Women’s political candidacy is notsuggested as a reason for the diff erence.C Women’s political views are not suggested asa reason for the diff erence.D Women’s egalitarian relations with men arenot suggested as a reason for the diff erence.E Correct. Duverger’s fi nding is of (apparentlysteady, ongoing) convergence in votingfrequencyrates between women and menover time. Th is supports the inference thatthe shorter the time period, the lessconvergence—i.e., the more divergence—there is in voting-frequency rates.Th e correct answer is E.

Inference中提到,Duverger found that women voted somewhat less frequently than men but that this diff erence narrowed the longer the women had the vote (lines 9–11). 应该是说,妇女投票的时间越长,差距就缩小了。这种差距指的是women voted somewhat less frequently than men.问题问的是most different,对照一下答案应该是the shortest time.

虽然做对了,还是看不太懂解释... 谁能再说明白点呀

LZ如注意到:the less....the longer...

the difference narrowing the longer women had the vote 即女性越早拥有vote的权利,男女之间的这种diffeence就会narrow, 所以这句话取反就是越晚拥有选举权的女性,她们与男性间的这种difference就会越大(即most different)。
